What's the weirdest hyperfixation you've had? Mine ;

  1. This may have something to do with being a 14-year-old girl at the time (I am not now 14 years old by a long shot) but I was OBSESSED with the life of a girl who died at about 14 in the Middle Ages after I read about her in a book. I wrote a (really bad) novel about her (and flunked geometry since I spent my time in geometry writing about her rather than paying attention).

  2. THIS intrigues me. My husband was an art major when we met. The night of his final I gave him a handjob (the long, lasts forever kind) and he slept through the exam. He now has a master's degree in religious studies because a handjob caused him to flunk out of art school. Life is funny. Oh. Sorry. I should have explained that he was diagnosed with ADD as a child, and has been obsessed with rituals his entire life. We both are, actually.

  3. Baby lizards. When my daughter was 3, we would go outside everyday to pick vegetables in our garden, and I could not, for the life of me, stop looking for baby lizards. This would happen daily. I would find the smallest ones and catch them, show them to my child, then let them go. I couldn’t tear myself away from the fixation no matter how hard I tried. I would walk around and stare at the plants looking for them for around an hour each day.

  4. Self mummification. This was like five years ago. I've had so many weird fixations I couldn't begin to list them, but this one was a BIG one. I was obsessed. It was my go to ice breaker (imagine being a stranger and having to listen to a twenty minute ramble about the process of turning oneself into a mummy!) And thanks to me every single person I know, now also knows about self mummification! I was also obsessed with this one specific photo of a mummy who just looked absolutely regal and nobody else could see it, but I'm tellin ya, this mummy looks GLORIOUS. For the last six or so years my hyperfixation has been mushrooms and fungus, but that has become more of a lifestyle for me. Lol I can hunt mushrooms all day. I don't think I'll ever have the self discipline to become a mummy. It's a nine year process for pissake.

  5. IDK really, I don't think any of my hyper fixations have been too bizarre. My latest was serial killers and psychopaths.

  6. I decided suddenly to bicycle across Kazakhstan. I bought all the gear, and within ten days of the idea I was off! Took two weeks, had a difficult and great time.

  7. Seam finishes on hand made clothes. The rest of the construction process I was just doing but oh the seam finishes. I lay awake at night thinking about those

  8. Freshwater aquariums. For almost a decade I had many aquariums, the max being 7 and all different sizes from 2gal - 30gal. I spent hours upon hours of research at the library, talked to specialty aquarium stores, even joined two freshwater societies and drove 30min out of my way for the meetings.

  9. Is it your husband that doesn't allow you to have fish? I can't imagine a condo corporation cares too much about a couple of guppies or whatnot.

  10. I don't know much about the culture, but I've been obsessed with the music the last couple years. Riit, Aasiva, The Jerry Cans, Northern Haze, Tanya Tagaq, I could go on and on!

  11. Serial killers when I was around 12. I read so much about them (as much as was possible with no internet). It made me really paranoid as a result, though.

  12. Got obsessed with and signed up for a course in astrophysics. Kind of forgot I didn't do science in high school. It lasted two weeks.

  13. had to consult the hyperfixation list for this one - i didn’t have as many weird ones as i would have thought. probably my most outwardly strange one was vulture culture, the hyperfixation died before i could collect the bones of the animals i buried in my backyard so they’re still out there somewhere lol

  14. Learning German so I can move my family there, I’m still studying German but no where near how I was 9 months ago.

  15. I just spent the better part of a week learning everything about and looking at every available x-ray image I could find just because I got one, the machine was cool and on top of that they gave me the image BUT DID NOT EXPLAIN IT.

  16. Eggs. I was focused on cooking them, learning about them and eating them for almost six months. I ate hundreds of eggs during that time and I cooked even more for my family and friends. But one good thing came out of it and that is that my scrambled eggs are nearly perfect

  17. Learning German so I can move my family there, I’m still studying German but no where near how I was 9 months ago.

  18. For me it has always been when being a fan of someone. Music, a writer, politician, sport. I am the biggest fan!! I am NOT a stakler - thought I just needed to make that clear, haha. But the person always just meen so much to me.... And the ones I have been a fan of, I will never forget, and they will always have a place in my heart.

  20. mine is currently fish keeping. i have three fish tanks and an axolotl. it’s really expensive but v fun, till i get bored

  21. I was ready to spend 15,000 to start my aviation career because I got lost a YouTube rabbit hole about planes and pilots and whatnot. I’m still pretty interested in it and I’ve since bought a HOTAS to play DCS and MSFS. Technically I did learn how to fly but it ain’t the same. But I realized recently I can’t even get a pilots license since I’m diagnosed with ADHD and take Adderall.

  22. Rollercoasters, Crime, skateboarding (in theory, i can skate but no tricks. but i know how the tricks are named and can recognize most of them), conscious consumerism and probably more lol

  23. Literally everything for a few months, then something shiny and new comes up. Currently, I’m looking to turn my Squire Strat in to a Frankenstrat, with aged brass in place of the chrome, a wooden pick guard, and a purple body, then I’m going to wind my own, handmade, pickups, because it looks fun on all the YouTube vids. I suck at guitar and I can’t afford this, but I’m gonna do it anyway, someday, oh and I think I prefer bass. But man is it gonna be purdy.

  24. Diana Taurasi, the greatest woman’s basketball player of all time, who is still playing and crushing 3’s at the age of 40. I’ve watched every single Phoenix Mercury game this season just to watch her play. I have never before watched basketball, played basketball, or even cared about basketball. Suddenly I turned into a massive baseball fan who cannot miss a game, simply bc I am just absolutely obsessed with Taurasi. I am learning all I can about basketball and the WNBA just to fangirl harder. I even bought a basketball and have been forcing my spouse (who did play basketball) to take me to t he courts near our house and teach me everything they know so I can be even more impressed by her skills. For a second I thought it was a crush (she is a lesbian and low key a baddie and so am I) but honestly it’s way past that and just a straight-up hyperfixation.
