  3. Honestly, I used to do this kind of stuff all the time as a kid. Looking back, I've realized that it was more caused by my fear of not perfectly following my parent's instructions than it was stupidity. A long history of getting yelled at and talked down to for messing up seemingly unimportant bits of instructions I was given left me pretty paralyzed at times. As dumb as it sounds, could see myself having repeated this exact scenario on a day when my anxiety was in the driver's seat.

  7. You tune your nav radio into the DME and it will show up as NM on the DME display, some GPS systems will also let you do this without tuning radios. In the future don’t be afraid to tell the controller “unable”, they are supposed to figure something else out. It’s ok to not know how to do something and most sim pilots do not use DME from what I’ve seen (It’s a good thing to learn)

OP was asked something like "say DME from departure airport" for which there is not going to be a tunable navaid (if there is a colocated ground based nav aid at the airport then the controller would technically need to ask for DME from that navaid and could only do it if that navaid is a part of the active flight plan).

  9. Or OP being so new was asked for DME from the colocated and likely identically named navaid and doesn't know the difference.

If you're using the default GPS and the route is saved in there, all you need to do is go to (forgive me I am doing this from memory) FPL page, hit PUSH CRSR and then rotate one of the dials (I can't remember which one) until your cursor is down and blinking on the requested "direct to" waypoint that ATC gives you the shortcut for, then hit MENU, then click OK to select this as the current path. If you are navigating via the GPS, your plane should turn to either meet the purple line or fly directly to the waypoint. No need to download new things. If you filed the flightplan via Simbrief, and saved them to your sim via

  11. If OP is "cleared direct ABCDE" then that implies "cleared present position direct ABCDE" which means "Activate Leg" would not be the correct procedure. OP needs to activate the waypoint (not the leg to the waypoint from the previous waypoint in the active flight plan) from the menu or - if using a Garmin - hit Direct Enter Enter (as opposed to Direct Direct Enter).

  12. It'll still work. There's no reason to DTO and wipe out your active flight plan. Try it yours and come back here. Open any random flight plan and fly to a random waypoint via my steps.

  22. I’ve been traveling back and forth from okc to south grand lake for the better part of a decade. Sapulpa is technically the halfway point, and always a point of reference when communicating where you are. One time my iphone autocorrected it to slappy lab and we’ve called it that every since.

Your comment implied that the cleaners are supposed to wait until either the end of the credits or when everyone has left, as if it's an inconvenience to you. If that's not what you meant, I apologize for jumping the gun; but having worked in retail as well as my wife being a movie theater usher, that does tend to be a common attitude.

  27. In addition to thinking about weight, start thinking about packability in general. Being able to load one bag full of your stuff and heave that into the airplane is better than carrying/loading a dozen different pieces of gear.
