  1. Yeah right?? Like atleast call them and let them know you won't be able to make it ? This goes for kids too

  2. Yes, parents handle all the social interactions for their kids and then scratch their heads at ghosting culture. Make kids take on the awkward responsibility of accepting, rejecting, or cancelling on an invitation, it'll make them understand the weight of their decision and also help them learn to be more comfortable and graceful at saying no in general.

  3. Never ever ever donate through another company like that. You're essentially just paying their taxes for them because they get to claim it as their donation.

  4. I stopped hoarding about two days after one of my adult children said of her upbringing in my home, "it was weird how much importance you placed on objects." She felt that my piles and collections had been more valuable to me than my children.

  5. It takes arguments. It seems you're like a young motivated adult. I would just firmly repeat, "If I'm going to live here, this place needs to be cleaner.". Immigrant parents are not usually open to their adult children moving out. So use that to your advantage, make it aware that you living there is a choice- a choice that can change at any time. If they want you around as an adult, they need to learn to share the decision -making in the house. But seriously long-term, have an exit date and plan for your own sake. You'll also get more authority and respect after you leave. I would say for now, don't be afraid of arguments and the tears. A lot of the advice out there doesn't quite incorporate different cultural contexts.

  6. To put this a little in perspective, LA County has more than 10 million residents. That is more than five times the number of the whole state of Idaho. That is more than 11 times the population of South Dakota.

  7. Every unaffordable hostile city, suburb, town in America should be taxed/fined yearly for contributing to this growing problem until they build enough affordable housing everywhere to house everyone. Also this doesn't count the underhoused/housing insecure.

  8. When you’re in a foreign country and don’t speak the language and a bottle is labeled alcohol next to drinking glasses, I guess it’s not that difficult for one to mistake it for liquor... There were no other warning signs on the bottle to show it was any type of cleaning solution. No symbol or anything. It looks like a cheap bottle of vodka.

  9. Lately I’ve noticed some people 100% say “woke” to just mean... a nonwhite person. Not even one tied to any real or imagined agenda, like they’ll see a photo of some random person doing some totally everyday thing and complain that they “look woke.”

  10. Oh look there's the cost of a few thousand student loans being turned in to toys for terrorists.

  11. I've noticed a trend in neighborhoods where you'll see one house throwing away a hoard and over the next several weeks, many others will be as well. If anything, it may get the ball rolling for others to take a look at their spaces. But yeah, as others have said, no one has time to stand around to look at- of all things- trash.

  12. Best thing I did to save water during my shower was to adjust the internal lever behind the shower faucet. Many showers are installed with a temperature limit control. I didn't think mine had it, but I finally took apart my 20+ year old shower faucet (the handle to turn the water on), and this tiny plastic gauge had been the bane of my existence all these years. Many YouTube tutorials out there. It's a quick fix, did it myself. Instant hot shower, the water stays hotter longer, and I'm out faster because it's nice and hot instead of weak and lukewarm.

  13. Can Toyota just re-release the 3rd gen? No extra bells or whistles, just as it was.

  14. I’m also pretty petty. I have to tell you that before I got to the end, I was thinking if it were me I would walk down the hall in my bra, but with no shirt. I mean hey, it’s wearing a bra, which is technically what she asked for.

  15. Why is every single listing online (apartments.com, Craigslist) a bait and switch? I've been trying to find a place for months and I'm finally physically in Boston and it's all still a bait and switch. It's coming down to the wire where I need housing by the end of the month and have no idea how to go about it now. I'm even up for hiring a broker (ridiculous practice) but it seems they all get their business through sketchy bait and switches. Help and advice welcome, fellow internet strangers.

  16. Use plastic shopping bags. Go on Craigslist for random odds and ends in the free stuff section. You can probably find random cleaning supplies and such. I have tons of plastic bags I wish could go to someone to use like this. I keep them to use as my own trash bags. I've never bought trash bags. Using them also limits the amount of trash you're able to have inside before you gotta empty it out. It's important to empty the trash every night to avoid pests.

  17. You can build the excitement with having them clean their current backpacks, lunchboxes, etc. Use Lysol and make them feel all fresh and new. That kind of activity is very self-rewarding too as studies show we release happiness chemicals in the anticipation/getting ready stages more so than just the event alone. You'd literally be making them happier with repairing than buying new. See The Happiness Lab podcast with Dr. Laurie Santos.

  18. Looks like your productivity just decreased by 4% (adjust for COL) and you can use that energy to find a new job!

  19. Also close the zippers on your pants/jackets before throwing them in the washer/dryer

  20. It's probably because you're the only one around and they've started to take you for granted. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.. and does wonders for parent-child relationships. May I suggest instead of a slow secret gradual move, perhaps have an apartment lined up for when all of your siblings are in town so you can move your stuff out then?

  21. ok what are the others? Do you know amazon retail isn't their main profit? I mean reddit runs on Amazon servers, so to boycott amazon that means no reddit and 30% of internet for you.

  22. There's universities doing the work of identifying lost Black cemeteries/burial sites. It's such important work. NPR did a story on this recently. Maybe you can connect with one of them. It would be a service to society.
